The Academic Performance Index (API) is a measurement of school achievement for accountability purposes as a result of the 1999 Public Schools Accountability Act (PSAA).

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is committed to helping students achieve high academic standards. The District is also committed to helping parents understand the progress their children are making in school. To accomplish this, the District has implemented the District Multiple Measures which combines results from SAT9, a District Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics assessments, and Teacher Grades.

SAT9

The Stanford 9 (SAT9) is a nationally normed multiple-choice achievement test. School districts are required to administer it to all students in grades 2 through 11. In grades 2 through 8 students are tested in reading, spelling, written expression, and mathematics.
